Fédération Française de Triathlon - #RoadToRio2016

En fin d'année dernière j'ai eu la chance de rencontrer l'équipe de France de Triathlon qui se réunissait à Villeneuve-Loubet en préparation des Jeux Olympiques de Rio en juillet prochain.Au milieu d'une journée intense, entre l'entrainement quotidien, un peu de détente au paddle et une rencontre avec le champion olympique Alain Bernard, ils sont passés devant mon objectif pour une séance de portraits. Et le moins que je puisse dire, c'est cette séance était intense, elle aussi :)

10 athlètes à shooter, habillés par le sponsor de l'équipe de France Adidas, puis dans leur combinaison tri-fonction, le tout en 2h. C'est allé à cent à l'heure.Ces jeunes athlètes sont impressionnants, on les sent très concentrés vers un objectif et ils sont faciles à diriger, même ceux qui prennent peu de plaisir à poser.Voici ma sélection :

Setup

La fédération souhaitait des portraits qui soient sérieux, voire "durs", pour mettre en avant l'esprit compétiteur des athlètes, il me semblait naturel d'utiliser un fond noir.On peut toujours recréer ce fond noir à partir d'une toile gris clair mais le studio manquait de recul pour pouvoir jouer sur ce type d'effets. Pour la même raison j'ai pris une optique 24-70mm qui déforme un peu trop les visages à mon goûtJe n'ai pas encore une grande expérience de studio et je préfère des éclairages équilibrés, sans effets trop marqués. Le temps qui m'était imparti ne me permettait de toute façon pas d'expérimenter, nous avons enchaîné les athlètes avec à peine 5 minutes pour chaque pose. La softbox et le parapluie étaient donc positionnés ainsi :

• Boitier Canon 6D
• Optique Sigma 24-70mm
• F11.0 - 1/200e sec - ISO100

Le Fujifilm X-Pro 2 par David Harvey

Fujifilm vient d'annoncer son nouveau boitier "ViewFinder", le X-Pro 2 et mon état d'excitation approche les 120%.Si vous connaissez le Fuji X100T dont je parlais ici il y a quelques semaines, mais que l'optique fixe de 35mm vous pose problème, alors le X-Pro 2 est certainement la meilleure solution.Dans ce film de présentation vous ne verrez pas de technique, qui m'ennuie, mais plutôt un très bel hommage à la photographie par David Harvey, un photographe légendaire qui représente la marque :

Je suis en tournage aujourd'hui, toujours sur le même projet que j'espère pouvoir vous présenter de manière complète à la fin du mois.Avec Cyril de WeAreStoryTellers, nous allons produire :

  • La seule marque de disque dur que j'utilise, qui garantit les meilleures performances avec une durée de vie extrême, dans un boitier de protection incassable (chute de 10m sans problème) et étanche avec connectique Thunderbolt pour travailler comme à la maison.

Roads of India in Cinemascope

Voici la 1ère série de photos issu de mon 2nd voyage au Rajasthan en 2015 pour Photographes du Mondes.De Jaisalmer à la frontière avec le Pakistan, jusqu'à Jaipur la capitale du Rajasthan, en passant par Pushkar et Chandrabhaga, toutes les étapes de mon voyage y sont représentées. Ces photos n'ont qu'un point commun, leur format dit 'Cinemascope'.Le format au ratio 2.35 est directement issu de la pellicule 70mm, essentiellement utilisée pour des caméras de cinéma. Je trouve que ce format donne à la photo de voyage une particularité, une profondeur. Il ne fonctionne pas pour toutes les photos, mais l'ensemble est un voyage photographique nouveau pour moi.Cette approche m'est directement inspirée par un talentueux réalisateur : Ludoc. Vous pouvez également découvrir ses photos de voyages dans ce format sur son site : 235pic.com. Il maîtrise l'exercice bien mieux que moi, j'espère tout de même que cette tentative vous plaira.  

Londres - Repérages

Je suis en train de préparer un projet qui m'a amené à Londres la semaine dernière. Ceux qui me connaissent un peu se doutent certainement de quoi il retourne, mais il n'est pas encore temps d'en diffuser le résultat, cela devra attendre la fin du mois de janvier.Pendant mes repérages à Londres j'ai dû découvrir plusieurs zones urbaines dans une ville que je connaissais finalement peu, malgré quelques visites au fil des années notamment pour G-Technology.J'ai ainsi commencé à capturer quelques détails de la ville, un peu d'architecture, quelques matières et couleurs. Quelques-uns m'ont parlé du plaisir qu'ils ont pris à suivre la série de photos sur facebook, d'autres que ça n'avait pas d'intérêt.J'imagine que 'ça dépend ça dépasse', mais j'y ai pris un certain plaisir alors peut-être que vous apprécierez. Si c'est le cas je continuerai, à Paris puisque j'y suis pour un moment.  

Fuji X100T - Mon coup de coeur 2015

Toutes les photos de ce test ont été prises avec le Fuji X100T au Rajasthan pour Photographes du Monde.12 Novembre 2015 - 12:00 PM15 kilos dans le dos, Roissy porte une brume que je suis heureux de quitter pour rejoindre quelques passionnés pour l'un de mes plus beaux voyage photo. Avec le matos bien rangé et logé dans le sac a dos, je garde à la main le Fuji X100T que je viens de recevoir. En temps normal c'est mon téléphone qui s'occupe des clichés du quotidien. Mais le X100T ne dérange jamais, ni son utilisateur ni son sujet. Alors il bosse plus souvent, tout le temps à vrai dire, dès que je vois un sujet qui me plait.Je garde ces clichés habituellement pour moi, mais cette histoire est une histoire d'amour, alors elle sera moins mièvre si elle est illustrée. Car le coup de foudre est instantané, en quelques minutes je le sais déjà, j'adore ce boitier. Ce test est en fait une déclaration. Fuji X100T, je t’aime passionnément, et je ne peux pas attendre une minute de plus pour t’emmener avec moi, où tu voudras quand tu voudras. Je t’aime car nous avons la même passion : la photographie.Je pourrais vous lister toutes les caractéristiques techniques, mais je préfère vous parler de sa taille du X100T qui est parfaite, de sa qualité d’image, de ses performances plutôt que de ses menus, je ne veux pas vous proposer un test exhaustif et détaillé. Surtout pour un boîtier sorti il y a presque un an.Je ne veux vous parler que de cette rencontre qui fut pour moi une évidence, de son bruit si doux, de sa discrétion, des images qu’il permet. Le Fuji X 100 T ne mérite pas une fiche technique, il mérite une lettre enflammée, une vie faite de sorties impromptues, de moments qui éblouissent et bien sûr d’un hommage : le Fuji X100T rend amoureux de la photographie.13 Novembre 2015 - New DelhiJe vais éviter de raconter cette journée et ce périple en train vers Jaisalmer, le coeur n'y serait pas vraiment. Sui Generis

Le Fuji X100T est unique en son genre, c’est bien simple, il n’a pas de concurrent. C’est un boitier très compact qui rassemble un capteur APS-C, une optique magnifique équivalente à 35mm en plein format et avec une ouverture maximale F2.0 et un viseur hybride optique/électronique. L’ensemble tient littéralement dans une poche et constitue pour moi le “2ème boitier” parfait.Chacun de ces éléments présente bien sûr des avantages et inconvénients, mais comme un jeune amoureux passionné que je suis lors d’une rencontre, je ne vois que ses qualités.

Petit et mignon

Parce que son viseur est décalé, le Fuji X100T est un boitier très compact qui économise la place d’un système de miroir.Vous voulez voir exactement votre cadre et l’exposition en temps réel ? Passez en mode de visée électronique. Vous préférez voir un peu plus grand pour anticiper une scène ? Passez en viseur optique. Et comble du luxe, vous voulez le meilleur des deux monde ? Passez en visée hybride optique/électronique, avec le cadre de la photo simplement surligné en électronique tout en profitant des agréables sensations d’une visée optique.Une fois essayée, je n’ai plus quitté la visée hybride. Elle évite le léger temps de latence de la visée électronique qui fait perdre de précieux dixièmes de seconde quand vous voulez shooter à la volée, et elle conserve les informations essentielles en surimpression de la visée optique. C’est merveilleux, la visée type “Leica” avec un autofocus ultra-rapide… Je ne sais pas si je pourrais vraiment m’en passer maintenant.

Qualité d’image optimale

Le capteur du Fuji X100T est un capteur de taille APS-C, associé à une optique équivalente à 35mm en plein format. J’évoque ces deux caractéristiques en même temps, car elles sont évidemment étroitement liées.Le capteur n’est pas plein format, ce qui pourrait à priori me heurter en venant du Sony A7, mais puisque l’optique n’est pas interchangeable et qu’elle est parfaitement adaptée au capteur, en plus d’une qualité remarquable, l’association est tout à fait cohérenteL’optique n’est pas interchangeable. Il est important de noter que Fuji propose néanmoins des “lense covers” qui permettent de transformer l’optique en 28mm ou 50mm (équivalent plein format). Mais à bien y réfléchir est-ce vraiment gênant ? Pour mon “2ème boitier”, qui est le plus souvent le 1er puisque c’est celui que j’emmène partout, j’ai déjà fait ce même choix d’une optique 35mm à ouverture F2.0.Le 35mm vous permet de quasiment tout faire : de l’architecture au portrait, c’est vraiment la focale qui permet le plus facilement de “zoomer avec les pieds”, c’est la focale fixe trans-standard en quelque sorte. Avec une ouverture F2.0 d’une grande qualité, on peut réduire largement la profondeur de champ, le bokeh est superbe et les basses lumières ne lui font pas peur.  Alors j’ai beau avoir la possibilité de changer l’optique sur d’autres boitiers dits “hybrides”, si je ne m’équipe pas ou ne l’utilise pas dans les faits, à quoi bon ?Car le bénéfice lui est évident, le Fuji X100T est le boitier que vous pouvez emmener partout, que vous soyez professionnels ou non. Dans la poche d’une veste, dans une petite poche extérieur d’un sac, dans une pochette à la ceinture si vous n’avez pas peur du ridicule ou si comme moi vous avez 15 kilos dans le dos sur un voyage où la place dans les bagages compte énormément, le FujiX100T est toujours à portée de main.Si le meilleur appareil photo est celui que vous avez toujours avec vous, considérez sérieusement que le meilleur appareil photo, du point de vue du rapport qualité d’image / compacité / prix, c’est peut être bien celui-là.Car la qualité d’image les amis, la qualité d’image… mamma mia… Les seuls qui tiennent pour moi la comparaison avec ma petite expérience sont les boitiers Leica (10x plus cher) ou Sony A7 (prix équivalent pour la première génération, mais sans optique… Et un 35mm F2.0 n’est pas donné). Et si vous ajoutez à cela la visée hybride qui prend le meilleur des 2 mondes (optique pour Leica, électronique pour Sony), avec un autofocus très rapide, le choix n’est même plus Cornélien. Il est évident : le Fuji X100T a tout pour lui.

Rapide et silencieux

Si vous aimez la photographie de rue, le reportage ou le voyage, la vitesse d’exécution, de mise au point et le silence du Fuji X100T sont des éléments importants pour pouvoir être repéré le plus tard possible. Si le photographe est un chasseur, le photographe de voyage est un sniper ou un furtif. Avec cette focale, vous êtes au plus proche de votre sujet, la furtivité est donc cruciale.Et le Fuji X100T, c'est le silence absolu. Moi qui suis habitué au gros 'clac' du Sony A7, je sais que je n’ai pas le droit à une 2ème chance. Avec le X100T, il peut se passer 30 secondes avant que je sois repéré. Et en 30 secondes, j’ai largement le temps de capturer la scène qui m’intéresse. Je découvre une liberté totalement nouvelle, et je dois dire assez jouissive.Le boitier étant léger, la prise de vue n’est jamais une agression, très rarement même une gêne pour les personnes que je rencontre. Je n’ai qu’à me concentrer sur ma photo, sa composition, l’instant que j’anticipe parfois, l’histoire que je veux raconter. Quel plaisir !24 Novembre 2015 - ChandrabaghaLa procession traverse la ville de Jhalawar vers la rivière de Chandrabhaga pour un pèlerinage Hindi parmi les plus spectaculaires du Rajasthan. Les saris fendent la foule, les danseurs ne blessent personne malgré leurs acrobaties, je suis pris par un tourbillon jusqu'au soir... Et personne ou presque ne me voit photographier. Pour être un peu plus objectif, je me dois de parler des défauts que j'ai trouvé au Fuji X100T. Mais je vous préviens je suis sûrement trop aveugle pour en voir :

• j'ai eu du mal avec la mise au point automatique, notamment lorsqu'une scène demande de la vitesse.
• je trouve la visée électronique trop lente à apparaître, c'est problématique pour ceux qui la préfère (je lui préfère la visée hybride, qui est parfaite).
• la molette de réglage au pouce est active, on peut appuyer dessus pour déclencher une fonction. Avec mes gros doigts je faisais souvent des erreurs, mais on ne peut pas avoir la taille réduite sans quelques conséquences.

Et sincèrement, je n'en vois pas d'autres...Parce que pour le reste, c'est dans le mille à chaque fois :

• une optique remarquable, lumineuse, parfaitement calibrée pour le capteur.
• la qualité d'image irréprochable.
• la compacité, on peut vraiment garder le X100T en permanence avec soi.
• la visée hybride unique au monde et tellement agréable
• pour ceux qui ne veulent pas passer trop de temps en post-production, les modes créatifs sont splendides, avec des copies de rendus de pellicules historiques
• évidemment vous pouvez récupérer vos photos en live sur votre téléphone via l'appli wifi
• l'ensemble pour un budget qui me semble modeste face à ses concurrents potentiels...
• ...mais à vrai dire le Fuji X100T a-t-il seulement un concurrent ?
• le design que je n'ai pas évoqué... il est tellement mignon !
• après 1 139€ c'est un budget, avec ses limitations cela peut paraître étonnant
• mais le Fuji X100T, c'est l'essence de la photographie.

Le Fuji X100 T me semble s'adresser aux experts ou au 2ème boitier des pros. C'est clairement ce marché, limité reconnaissons le, qui est visé. Mais si vous aimez le reportage, le voyage, l'instantané, la furtivité, avec une qualité d'image optimale... ne réfléchissez pas, foncez.
