Genaro Bardy is a French Photographer who lives in Salvador, Bahia in Brazil.
He explores and chronicles the poetic nuances of daily life, using city streets, complex urban atmospheres, and life in small communities as his visual language. He is passionate about the photographs that document his travels and stories of the unusual.
He taught himself street photography at the age of 32, discovered a new language of images, angles, composition and great photographers. His work and practice fits into the lineage of street photography that investigates social landscape, often focusing on cultural identity and community.
His first major project “Desert in the City” was featured in 400+ media, exhibited in Paris and published as his first monograph “Ville Déserte”. He has since published three books, “La Ville Miraculeuse” which tells a story through street photography in twelve countries over ten years, an educational book “Letters to a young photographer” and a personal and intimate story of Salvador where he lives with “Minha Alma no Banho de Luz”.
His work has been commissioned by The Guardian, Le Monde, Daily Mail, L’Obs, L’Express, Colette, Traveller Made, among others.
He has taught photography and visual thinking to 200+ photographers with workshops in New York, Paris, Siena or Cartagena. He is now following through with his online mentorship program.
